Join us for an afternoon of movement, connection, and a sneak peek at an exciting new resource for the PD community on Wednesday, January 21 from 4:30 PM at The Bandeen Center—a brand-new
fitness and wellness hub designed especially for people living with Parkinson’s, located at 133 E. 58th Street at Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. The event will include a 45-minute dance class led by Dance for PD founding teacher David Leventhal, followed by a

Moving Brains, Dancing Souls
Join us Thursday, January 22 from 3:15-4:45 PM at The Mark Morris Dance Center, located at 3 Lafayette Avenue in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn, for a new bilingual class exploring movement and music from Spanish-speaking countries. Led in Spanish and English in
collaboration with Dr. Jose Cabssa from Moving Brains Foundation, the session includes a brief health evaluation before a fun, energetic 90-minute dance-based workout. The event is offered free of charge. For more information, visit movingbrainsfoundation.org or email movingbrainsneuro@gmail.com.
Now that winter weather has arrived, we're sharing our inclement weather policy: Dance for PD programs will be canceled if New York City Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather. The class may also be canceled if extreme weather conditions make travel too
difficult. In the event of cancellation, a live or on-demand digital class will be made available to enjoy from the safety and comfort of home free of charge.
Cancellation information will be posted on our website home page by 9 AM on the day of the class: www.danceforpd.org. Information will also be left on the outgoing message of our registration/cancellation hotline: (718) 218-3373. If you do not receive notice of a cancellation, please assume the class is taking place as scheduled. As always, we encourage you to use your best judgment! Please join us for classes in person only when it is a safe and comfortable
option for you.
Registration will open 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of each session. All classes/events are listed in Eastern Time (ET):

Alexander Technique for PD
Cindi Kim, one of the practitioners at the Mark Morris Wellness Center, has been teaching Alexander Technique for over 12 years and is currently in intensive training for
adapting Alexander for the PD community. She is offering private Alexander Technique lessons at the Mark Morris Dance Center for $120/session, with a sliding-scale payment options available for the PD community experiencing financial hardship. Research indicates that Alexander Technique may help people living with Parkinson's and care partners reduce depression and

Dance for PD has partnered with Recare, an innovative home-based service supporting individuals living with Parkinson’s, dementia, and other neurodegenerative conditions to share the
joys and benefits of dance in customized in-home sessions. Writing about PD is an important way to explain what it is and how it feels like to live with it. There is a need for us to tell our own stories and we need to tell them not just to each other, but to everybody.
The Writing Circle provides a forum to support the writing process of people living with PD. The group meets monthly at The Mark Morris Dance Center.
The Downtown Brooklyn Speech and Hearing Clinic at LIU-Brooklyn is pleased to offer an in-person, voice and communication group for individuals with Parkinson’s (PD) on Thursdays at 1 PM. This group is student-led and supervised by a licensed speech-language pathologist with expertise in working with individuals with PD. The program is specifically tailored for individuals with PD who have completed voice or speech therapy. It will also incorporate self-advocacy training, caregiver engagement, and education on alternative communication devices that participants may utilize.

Fitness for PDIn person or Online Tuesdays from 9:45-11:15 AM February 3-April 28, 2026 Join us at LIU Brooklyn for free exercise classes developed specifically for people with Parkinson’s. Led by Tracye Rawls-Martin and LIU students, participants build physical fitness and skills by challenging their abilities in a friendly, caring, and rigorous environment. Speech for PD Join Teachers College at Columbia University online for free intensive speech treatment for people with Parkinson’s. Led by Gemma Moya-Galé, Carol Normal, and TC graduate students, the focus
of these sessions is to enhance social participation by focusing on voice and breathing exercises that target intelligibility as well as on functional speaking and cognitive tasks. Participants will work in both big group and smaller subgroup formats, which offers many opportunities to practice in a fun, engaging, and interactive way from home. Care Partner Support Group Heights and Hills is proud to offer in-person and online support groups for spouses, partners, or family members caring for a person living with Parkinson's weekly on Wednesdays. Sessions run from 12-2 PM on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn;

Peer 2 Peer Support Group Informally started by participants in the Dance for PD PRO Manhattan class, this peer-led group was formed from an organic need to talk to others living with PD, share experiences, get ideas, and learn from one
another. Meetings take place in person on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 PM at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, located at 334 Amsterdam Avenue at W. 76th Street. Click

Intergenerational West-African
West African Dance explores the fundamentals of West African culture and tradition through music and dance. The musicality, traditions, and various techniques introduced in these classes will connect with dance techniques of Africa and its diaspora including, but not limited to, the dances of Mali, Guinea, and Senegal, afrobeat, afro
house, and more. Students explore polyrhythmic patterns and practice multiple types of call and response cues performed both verbally and physically. This intergenerational class will be offered on Saturdays, January 10-February 14 from 2:00-3:30 PM at the Mark Morris Dance Center. Dancers of all ages and abilities are welcome to explore the use of weight, body

Our 45th Anniversary Season continues into the summer with Dances to American Music and a return to The Joyce Theater July 14-25, 2026! We'll be presenting a three-program series celebrating Mark Morris' choreographic versatility and his commitment to music – in this case, the
music of American composers.
Soul of America (Program A) features the virtuosic and witty Three Preludes, the sunny
silliness of Dancing Honeymoon, the dynamic You've Got to Be Modernistic, and the New York premiere of Mark Morris' latest work Pizzica.
American Heartbeat (Program B) takes us through Morris' works set to Country and Western music with Songs That Tell A Story, Deck of Cards, Going Away Party, and a
high-energy World Premiere!
American Mavericks (Program C) celebrates the expansive scores of West Coast composers with Prelude and

Movement for Healthy Aging
Join us for free weekly Move & Flow and Restorative Movement classes on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2:15-3:15 PM at the Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn. Move & Flow is a structured dance experience exploring multiple dance styles
developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group for older people seeking a fun, creative approach to maintaining physical health, confidence, and a sense of well-being. Harnessing MMDG’s 20 years of research and development in creating accessible classes for people with movement challenges, Move & Flow sessions integrate dance technique, motor skill development, and social connection to create a uniquely enjoyable, musical and motivating exercise experience

Seated or standing, participants will explore movement in ways that feel natural and nourishing while releasing tension, building social connections, and sharing resources.
